John Bishop’s Britain doesn’t apparently include Wales. His lamentable non-attempt to pronounce a Welsh place name, Llyn y Dwyarchen, Rhyd Ddu, on last night’s Stargazing Live: Back to Earth marred an otherwise excellent show. Not only was Bishop’s dismissive manner tiresome and predictable, the irony of it must have been lost on him.
There were predictably loud noises directed at the BBC from the North West of England last year when a certain Sunday evening motoring show stereotyped the Liverpudlian comic with ongoing jokes about stolen hubcaps before climaxing with the studio shot of a Porsche on bricks, minus wheels.
It’ll be interesting to see how many howls of protest there are from the generally Cymrophobic ‘quality tabloid press’ so incensed by Bishop’s treatment at the tongue of Clarkson, or if, as this didn’t happen on Top Gear, they’d even noticed.
